Kumpulan Pengurusan Kayu Kayan Trengganu Sdn. Bhd. ("KPKKT") is the “Forest Manager” of a long term forest concession of approximately 126,940 hectares of Rich Natural Tropical Rain Forest (TRF) in the State of Terengganu in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia., which consists of 106,697 hectares of Dungun Timber Complex ("DTC") and 20,243 hectares of Cherul Forest Concession ("CFC").
KPKKT was established on 13th. Mac 1980 as a subsidiary of Golden Pharos Berhad ("GPB"), a Terengganu government link company (GLC) listed on the Main Board of the Malaysian Stock Exchange (Bursa Malaysia). Other subsidiary companies under GPB include Pesaka Trengganu Berhad, Pesama Timber Corporation Sdn. Bhd., Permint Plywood Sdn. Bhd. and Golden Pharos Glass Sdn. Bhd.
KPKKT has been certified and awarded the Forest Stewardship Council ("FSC®") certification since 21 April 2008, by the Scientific Certification Systems (“SCS”), a leader and pioneer in third-party auditing and certification of forest management operations around the world, using the SCS-FSC Interim Standard for Forest management Certification in Malaysia Version 5.0 2014 for well-managed forests. This certification verifies that KPKKT’s tropical forest of 106,697 hectares in Dungun Timber Complex (“DTC”) are managed according to the rigorous international standards of the "FSC®" under a selective management system that maintains continuous forest cover and conserve species diversity. Following a first successful recertification during 2012, KPKKT was again recertified a second time in October 2018.
We are proud to note that KPKKT is the only timber management company in the world that has successfully completed the first 25 year cycle of managing the rich tropical rain forest under the Malaysian Selective Management System (SMS) which ended in 2007. As from 2008 we have entered the second cycle of SMS which would cover a new period of 30 years (until 2038). We are very confident to be able to do this and complete the cycle while at the same time meet the high standard of "FSC®".
