KUMPULAN PENGURUSAN KAYU KAYAN TRENGGANU SDN BHD (KPKKT)

STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE WITH PRINCIPLES AND CRITERIA (P&C) OF THE FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL

Kumpulan Pengurusan Kayu Kayan Trengganu Sdn Bhd (KPKKT) is a privately run forest management company based in the State of Terengganu, Malaysia. KPKKT produces quality round timbers from its 106,697-ha concessions of rich tropical rain forest which it had been managing on a sustainable basis since 40 years ago. Known as Dungun Timber Complex (DTC) this forest concession comprises 6 permanent reserve forests (PRFs) as follows;

  1. Pasir Raja Selatan (PRS) PRF
  2. Pasir Raja Barat (PRB) PRF
  3. Besul PRF
  4. Besul Tambahan PRF
  5. Jerangau PRF
  6. Jengai PRF

The continued existence and operation of KPKKT have benefited the local economy, people and environment over the years ever since the company’s establishment in 1983.

Under the circumstance, it is for KPKKT’s own interest as well as that of the local economy and population that DTC be certified as sustainably managed in perpetuity, and in accordance with the tenets of sustainable forest management (SFM).

In this context, the management of KPKKT is proud to announce its desire to be associated with such globally renowned certification body as the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), and to subscribe to all of its Principles and Criteria (P&C) of Forest Stewardship. This constitutes a strategic move by KPKKT to be seen as a strong advocate of sustainable management and conservation of the tropical rainforest of Malaysia.

Such a move is expected to enhance KPKKT’s standing in these fields as a responsible and reputable forest management company, enabling it to gain the goodwill and trust of the various stakeholders, including the forest dependent communities and customers, and to continue to remain viable in the business.

KPKKT acknowledge FSC® as an independent, non-govermental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forest, through its set of Principles and Criteria of Forest Stewardship . KPKKT hereby intends to comply with all of the stated P&C's and stands with FSC's ideals on forest stewardship.
